Rare Civil War era document signed by Champion Bissell, a prominent newspaper editor, journalist, and media mogul (1830-1899). Bissell was an author and poet during the Civil War era. This document is a check from the Uncas National Bank, dated May 15, 1874, for $500, with an endorsement on the verso. Includes an imprinted 2 cent US Internal Revenue tax stamp. The document measures 7¾” x 3” and is in very fine condition. A unique piece of American history.
