This art porcelain serving set was made by Sango, Japan in the 1950's. It features an attractive floral transfer that is so artfully done it has the look of a hand painted watercolor. The flower is Thistle with pink blooms and green leaves. There are five pieces: the serving plate measures a generous 12 inches in diameter and 1 5/8 inches deep; four salad plates are 7 inches in diameter each. On the main plate is a mark in Japanese on the front (most likely the original artist's mark). It has three holes in the back for hanging. Use this set for sandwiches, a cake or cupcakes! The background is white and the rims are painted yellow. Marked: "Sango China /Made in Japan" on the backs. This midcentury set is in excellent condition ~ there are no utensil marks, crazing or damage of any kind.
